Josh Nussbaum Saves The Day!

Studio Jams was in a jam. Producer Tom Emmi was ready to film Episode #73 in Studio A at Forge Recording. In place were saxophonist Andrew Neu, bassist Jonathan Smith, pianist Jason Long, drummer Dave Hanlon, and the film crew. But with no guitar player the session was about to be scrapped. Fortunately, guitarist Josh Nussbaum was teaching a songwriting lesson in The Academy at Forge Recording and jumped in to save the day!

Josh is an outstanding guitar player who accompanied Grammy-nominated singer Charlie Puth when he was here rehearsing for an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Josh has played on numerous sessions at Forge, including one for The Voice’s Matthew Schuler.

Studio Jams – Jon McLaughlin

The 77th episode of Studio Jams was recently taped at Forge Recording studios. This time, the session included pianist/vocalist Jon McLaughlin, guitarist Randy Bowland, bassist and Pottstown native Bennie Sims and drummer and Philly native James Rouse. McLaughlin has collaborated with artists as diverse as Demi Lovato, Sara Bareilles, and Jason Mraz, and he performed at the 2008 Academy Awards. His song “Beating My Heart” landed on the Billboard charts.

Studio Jams is a creative, up-close and inside look at the art of making music. In the videos “More Than Me” and “Beautiful Disaster,” you can watch McLaughlin, Bowland, Sims, and Rouse in Forge’s Studio A experimenting with different approaches before deciding on the final version. In “Human,” McLaughlin starts the video explaining how he wrote the song with Better Than Ezra‘s lead singer Kevin Griffin.

Studio Jams – Grace Kelly

In between tapings of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Boschsaxophonist Grace Kelly visited Forge Recording to film an episode of Studio Jams.

The session was recorded in Studio A by lead engineer Ron DiSilvestro. Grace Kelly was joined by bassist Chico Huff, guitarist Kevin Hanson, keyboardist Matt King and Tracy Alexander on the drums.

Grace Kelly is an accomplished saxophone player, vocalist, composer, educator and performer. She recorded her first album, Dreaming, at age 12. It was followed by Times Too, Every Road I Walked, GracefulLee, Mood Changes, Man With The Hat, Grace, Live At Scullers, Working For The Dreamers, and her latest project, Trying To Figure It Out. She is a regular in Stay Human, the house band led by Jon Battiste on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Nathan East – Studio Jams

Another installment of the Studio Jams series, produced by Tom Emmi, brought bassist Nathan East to Forge Recording. East, who is perhaps the most recorded bass player of all time, is known for his work with Eric Clapton, Michael Jackson, George Harrison, Herbie Hancock, and Daft Punk. Mr. East was joined by drummer James “Biscuit” Rouse, guitarist Gil Parris and keyboardist Matt King. Check out the videos below.
