Vibrato Productions Records The Voice’s Matthew Schuler

The Voice contestant Matthew Schuler has been busy working with a production team in The Academy Studio at Forge Recording. Schuler, the first contestant to turn all four chairs in The Voice’s blind auditions, has been recording new material with producers Janice McClain, Lawrence Drinks and Michael Anderson of Vibrato Productions. The tracks are being recorded and mixed by Robbie Simmons and mastered by Forge Recording lead engineer Ron DiSilvestro. The team, pictured here, convened for a listening party in Studio A.

Schuler made waves during Season 5 of The Voice under coach Christina Aguilera. His rendition of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah reached #1 on the iTunes charts and #40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Schuler has a major role in the indie film I’m Not Ashamed, which is based on the inspiring true story of Rachel Joy Scott at Columbine High School, and was released in October 2016 (check out the trailer below).

St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church chose Forge Recording for its latest album, All Are Welcome.

The album celebrates the diversity of their congregation and the surrounding Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia. It includes a mix of classic Christian hymns, an African-American spiritual, and original compositions. It is performed by the Music Ministry’s Gospel and Contemporary Choirs, directed by Valerie Lee-Jeter and Darin Williams.

The album was recorded, mixed and mastered  in Studio A by Forge Recording lead engineer Ron DiSilvestro who was assisted by Brendan McGeehan. Forge then produced in-house CDs in jewel cases for quick delivery while 6-panel DigiPaks were being manufactured at the plant. Proceeds from the CD benefit St. Vincent’s Music Ministry and their Capital Campaign, which works to preserve the rich history of Catholicism in Germantown.

From the film’s website:

WHAT WOULD YOU GIVE UP TO FOLLOW YOUR DREAM?

Charlie leaves a good job to follow his dream of managing his favorite hometown rock band. Believing the band will be famous in the future, he hatches a plan to throw a unique rock concert for time travelers. His only problem is the band’s guitarist, who doesn’t share Charlie’s optimism. His attitude derails Charlie’s best efforts to bring the band success and sends Charlie spiraling into an emotional, financial, and romantic tailspin. With the help of his elderly neighbor and a young intern, Charlie tries to get the band on track and his girlfriend back before it’s too late.

From Concert to CD in 5 days

December marks an annual tradition at Forge Recording–the Westminster Presbyterian Church Christmas concert recording.

Forge Recording’s Brendan McGeehan was there to record two of the performances. McGeehan recorded 28 tracks that lead engineer Ron DiSilvestro mixed and mastered in Forge Recording’s Studio A the following day. Within 5 days of the concert, Forge’s team produced 600 market-ready CDs in shrinkwrap for the church to share.

Saint Anthony of Padua Pipe Organ Recording

Forge Recording’s Brendan McGeehan traveled to Saint Anthony of Padua in Wilmington, DE, to record their pipe organ. The instrument is meticulously maintained by the Peragallo Pipe Organ Company, and in fact was tuned the morning of the session. Organist Louis Perazza performed 10 pieces for a forthcoming Christmas pipe organ album.

McGeehan used several microphones with varying stereo techniques to capture the all-encompassing organ sound, including a matched pair of Neumann U87s near the low frequency pipes, and a Blumlein configuration of AKG 414s in the “sweet spot” of the church. From here, lead engineer Ron DiSilvestro will mix and master the audio in preparation for the holiday release.

The breathtakingly beautiful church was built in 1924 in the “Romanesque revival” architectural style. With impressive acoustics, an excellently maintained instrument, a virtuostic performance, and top quality recording equipment, this project will surely create a long lasting tribute for St. Anthony’s and the Peragallo Pipe Organ Company.
