Josh Nussbaum Saves The Day!

Studio Jams was in a jam. Producer Tom Emmi was ready to film Episode #73 in Studio A at Forge Recording. In place were saxophonist Andrew Neu, bassist Jonathan Smith, pianist Jason Long, drummer Dave Hanlon, and the film crew. But with no guitar player the session was about to be scrapped. Fortunately, guitarist Josh Nussbaum was teaching a songwriting lesson in The Academy at Forge Recording and jumped in to save the day!

Studio Jams – Jon McLaughlin

The 77th episode of Studio Jams was recently taped at Forge Recording studios. This time, the session included pianist/vocalist Jon McLaughlin, guitarist Randy Bowland, bassist and Pottstown native Bennie Sims and drummer and Philly native James Rouse. McLaughlin has collaborated with artists as diverse as Demi Lovato, Sara Bareilles, and Jason Mraz, and he performed at the 2008 Academy Awards. His song “Beating My Heart” landed on the Billboard charts.

Studio Jams is a creative, up-close and inside look at the art of making music. In the videos “More Than Me” and “Beautiful Disaster,” you can watch McLaughlin, Bowland, Sims, and Rouse in Forge’s Studio A experimenting with different approaches before deciding on the final version. In “Human,” McLaughlin starts the video explaining how he wrote the song with Better Than Ezra‘s lead singer Kevin Griffin.

Phish’s Jon Fishman & Dave Hanlon on Forge Recording

Hear what Jonathan Fishman (Phish), and his childhood instructor, Dave Hanlon (Dave Hanlon’s Cookbook), have to say about Forge Recording.

While filming a Studio Jams session, Fishman and Hanlon were asked their opinions about Forge Recording. Without giving away too much, they did say “gorgeous,” “first-class studio” and “the kind of place you could camp out in for awhile.”

Here is a track from their Studio Jams session.

And an interview from syracuse.com.

Janis Siegal, Studio Jams

Janis Siegal, nine-time Grammy winning jazz vocalist, and original member of The Manhattan Transfer, joined pianist John di Martino, bassist Chico Huff, drummer Vic Stevens and saxophonist Andrew Neu for a jazzy Studio Jams session. For the first song, Ms. Siegal selected “Love Won’t Let Me Wait” in honor of Philadelphia producer and composer Bobby Eli who also attended the session. “Equinox” is a tribute to another notable Philadelphia artist, John Coltrane. Tom Emmi is the producer of the series, which brings artists together to create new takes on old standards.

Phish’s Jonathan Fishman Reunites

Jonathan Fishman, founding drummer of the band Phish, reunites with his childhood drum instructor at Forge Recording.

In 1978 a teenage drummer takes 3 drum lessons in Syracuse, New York, and becomes one of the most successful touring musicians of all time. Credit Tom Emmi of Studio Jams for another stroke of genius–reuniting the instructor, Dave Hanlon, with the student, Jonathan Fishman, and filming the session at Forge Recording. Read the article from Syracuse.com. See the recording session on Studio Jams in the near future.

Jonthan Fishman and Dave Hanlon were joined by Gil Parris on guitar, Matt King on keys and Kip Sophos on bass. Ron DiSilvestro engineered the session for Forge Recording.
